Riverside is a city in, and the county seat of, Riverside County, California, United States, located in the Inland Empire metropolitan area. It is so named because of its location next to the Santa Ana River. Riverside Municipal Airport is an airport within the city limits of Riverside, but it has no commercial airline service. Riverside is the 61st most populous city in the United States and the twelfth most populous city in California.
California may be the most expensive state in the country to live in, but Riverside is an exception to that fact. Riverside is located in Southern California and is less than an hour's drive from downtown Los Angeles. In the California state legislature, the city of Riverside is in the 31st Senate District, represented by Democrat Richard Roth.
As the seat of Riverside County and the most populous city in the Inland Empire, Riverside is also home to several law, accounting, engineering and banking firms.
